The Arbors of Creekwood Homeowners Association, Inc.
PO Box 1110
Mansfield, Texas 76063
August 2010
Hi all,
Hope everyone is staying cool in these hot dog days of August.
I received this letter last Saturday and was very disturbed by it:
Mr. Williamson,
I was not sure how to get a hold of you but wanted to let our neighborhood know of an incident that happened last night. We woke up this morning and 2 of my husband's tires were slashed (we live off of Brook Arbor Ct). We filed a report with the police and found out 2 more vehicles had their tires slashed too. I know another resident in our neighborhood had their garage door and trees spray painted. I know kids like to play pranks but this has really got out of hand. We are now out of pocket over $500 for what I am assuming is bored teenagers. I want to send out a simple plea to those parents that have kids....please make sure your child is not involved in any of these incidents. We have filed a police report and with the damage that is being done a simple prank could be serious trouble for anyone caught.
We have been victims of some type of prank every summer for the last 3 years and it gets escalated each year. We have been thinking of moving into a bigger house and have loved this area. We wanted to relocate and stay in the neighborhood but if these things keep occurring then we may have to rethink that decision.
Thanks, Linda
It appears that the vandalism is increasing in a more dangerous and violent manner. Folks, we need to be very alert about our surroundings and be watchful of not only our stuff, but the stuff of our neighbors. I agree with Linda that these acts of vandalism are bored kids. Most likely our kids. Please ask your kids if they know or hear of any kids talking about this incident or other incidents in our neighborhood. These pranks have to stop.
On a brighter note, the board hopes to have a presentation regarding the repair of the pavestone sidewalks very soon. We are in the process of evaluating bids and I hope to have a contractor selected by our August meeting. Then we will offer to the Arbors our recommendations to vote on.
Thanks for your support,
Mike Williamson |
Timely Tip for August Gardeners
from Calloway’s Nursery
Color for the heat of summer! How many of you scoff at the idea and mumble under your breath that it’s impossible? Well, we have a summer color program called “FlameProof for Texas” which will make a believer out of you!
Every year over 3,000 plants are tested at the Dallas Arboretum Trial Gardens. The very best of those are awarded the “FlameProof™” Plant award. This award is reserved for those plants that can take the Texas heat and thrive in our hot summers. If you're looking for plants that will flourish in our hot tropical summers, then look no farther. These winners will look great in your garden from May right up until first frost.
Our “FlameProof” Plants program started in June but the selection will continue through the end of August. Each week a new variety is featured and for this month we will be receiving the following plants:
- Lobularia ‘Snow Princess’-Blooms fragrant white flowers and grows only 4 to 6 inches tall.
- Torenia ‘Catalina Midnight Blue’-Dark blue Snapdragon-like blooms on plants 8 to 16 inches tall.
- Coleus ‘Kingswood Torch’-Vivid dark foliage thrives in full to part sun.
- Coleus ‘Royal Glissade’-Light moss-green leaves with raspberry touches will tolerate full sun or part shade.
- Salvia ‘Mystic Spires’-True blue flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds.
Don’t let the heat of the summer keep you from enjoying your gardens. Check out our collection of “FlameProof” plants and enjoy garden color through Fall!
